PATENTS  VIII.  Should I Use a Patent Attorney?
Picture
You have the right to yourself prepare, file, and prosecute a patent application.  And, there are individuals who have done just that.  However ....

The procedure for preparing, filing and prosecuting a patent application is complicated and requires specialized knowledge and skills.  Each patent attorney has a technical background and many have engineering degrees.  It may well require two to three years of experience for a patent attorney to become expert in practicing before the Patent Office and in obtaining patents.  Consequently, if you elect to pursue obtaining a patent, it typically is in your best interest to consult a patent attorney.
